The Local Community

Polegate is situated approximately 5 miles north of Eastbourne and is a very popular area to live due to its road links for the A22 & A27 and the mainline railway station, which has trains to Eastbourne, Brighton as well as Gatwick Airport and London Victoria. Bus services pass through the area connecting with the surrounding districts including Eastbourne and Hailsham and the High Street has various shops, medical centres and dentist. There are excellent schools, with Polegate Primary School located at Oakleaf Drive, and there are further schools at Rapsons Road and Broad Road, Lower Willingdon. Located at Windsor Way, Polegate, is the Community Centre, which provides many social clubs including the Polegate Drama Group, where they are very well known for putting on excellent productions including the popular annual pantomime.

Polegate is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with the picturesque South Downs to the west. The South Downs provide many enjoyable walks with stunning views across The Weald towards Hastings, Eastbourne and out to The English Channel. Also close by, are the idyllic downland villages of Jevington, East Dean, Folkington, Wilmington, Litlington and Alfriston. From Oakleaf Drive in Polegate, is The Cuckoo Trail, which use to be the railway line connecting with Hailsham. This was closed in the 1960’s and is now a popular walk and cycling route, which eventually finishes 11 miles north at Heathfield.
